The Mauritian Diaspora Scheme is incentive rich and aims to attract Mauritian Diaspora back to Mauritius. The aim of the Mauritian Diaspora Scheme is to allow Mauritian Migrants to contribute and aid in the development of the economy of Mauritius. The Mauritian government strongly believes that the globally dispersed Mauritian Diaspora Community is of utmost importance and an asset to the Mauritian economy.
In order to best understand the whether or not you are able to qualify for the Mauritian Diaspora Scheme, you need to make understanding of what Mauritian Diaspora is defined as.
The definition of Mauritian Diaspora:
- A Mauritian Diaspora member is a citizen of Mauritius holding a valid Mauritian passport, a child or grandchild of that citizen, whether the child or grandchild holds a valid Mauritian passport or not.
- The Mauritian Diaspora member should not be a dependent child (under the age of 24 years old).
- Individuals who do not hold a Mauritian passport but fit into the above definition, are also qualified as Mauritian Diaspora Members.
- The non-holders will be issued with a Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) valid for a period of 10 years, renewable.
The Mauritian Diaspora Scheme
The Checklist for application to the Mauritian Diaspora Scheme includes:
- Professional Application form;
- Copy of passport;
- Birth certificate of applicant, parents and grand-parents as applicable;
- Marriage certificate (if applicable);
- Curriculum vitae;
- At least 2 reference letters from past employers;
- Certificate of Character (5 years);
- Contract of employment
If you are Self-Employed:
- Application form;
- Copy of passport;
- Birth certificate of applicant, parents and grand-parents as applicable;
- Marriage certificate (if applicable);
- Curriculum vitae;
- Certificate of Character (5 years);
- Business plan and source of funds
